At Firehouse, we believe in preventing illness, injury, and disease. Our patients should maintain healthy lives, and we want their owners to be heard, valued, and well-informed. Every aspect of our routine Wellness visit was created with this philosophy in mind.
Our experience has shaped our approach to veterinary medicine. The Firehouse team continues to challenge the status quo and innovate improved ways of delivering care to our pets. We utilize scientific and technologic advances as well as advanced communication and collaborative tools to create the best Firehouse customer and patient experience. Our Wellness Philosophy exemplifies some of our strategies.
- Historical Information Evaluation
We believe in understanding your pet’s needs by acknowledging any pertinent information from the past. Thorough communication helps us to have a more comprehensive approach to making the best decisions.
- Physical Examination
Because our pets do not tell us how they feel, a physical exam often gives us more insight into problems that could exist. When done completely, we gain much additional knowledge about the pet.
- Blood Chemistry Testing
Often internal problems go unknown until the pet begins exhibiting signs of illness. We have the ability to learn much about the internal function of the pet through a small blood sample taken at the time of the visit. This blood analysis allows us to understand what is happening now and gives us a way of comparing the patient over time to identify trends.
- Intestinal Parasite Screen
Studies show that 5-10% of our patients have some form of intestinal parasite. These diseases can cause illness in our pets and may cause health concerns in people. We believe in testing these patients each year to guide necessary treatment.
- Heartworm Testing / Prevention
Heartworm disease is common but easily preventable. We test our patients annually to make sure that prevention is working effectively and to ensure that we do not need to intervene with any other methods.
- Immunizations (Vaccinations)
We believe in giving only the immunizations that your pet truly needs. We do not have a one-size-fits-all protocol but want to consider age, lifestyle, exposure risk, health, and owner concerns before deciding on the immunization strategy.
- Nutrition Consultation
We know that what we feed our pets is critical to providing them a long and healthy life. For that reason, the Firehouse team is dedicated to reviewing current discussions in nutritional research and passing that information on to our pet owners.
- Behavior Consultation
We grasp that behavior, training, and stress management are critical to the human-animal bond. Many veterinarians overlook these areas and consider it to be someone else’s job. We want to be a resource for solving these problems for our patients through education and other resource partners.
- Genetic Consultation
We live in a time when genetic advances are making a big difference for further understanding of our pets. We will evaluate testing that helps us to know the most about your pet using their own genetic code.
- Professional Dental Care
We believe that routine professional dental cleanings may be one of the greatest ways to prevent illness and disease. Many systemic ailments begin with the underlying dental disease so managing those issues each year makes a tremendous difference in the health of our pets.
